We came together in 2012 to support the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) in their historic battle to defend their jobs and quality public education. With overwhelming popular support, the CTU pushed back against Mayor Rahm Emanuel's attack and won their strike.
Now Rahm is on the attack again, this time hiding behind Gov. Bruce Rauner's budget cuts and a pension crisis created by Chicago Public School's own mismanagement to demand a cut in base pay. But teachers have already seen their paychecks cut due to a freeze in raises based on seniority and educational attainment.
Once again, parents and community members will need to step up to support the CTU and show the mayor and CPS that Chicago won't stand by as the people who are devoted to our kids' education are coming under attack.
Join us along with other community members and labor allies to build a solidarity movement as a possible strike date approaches. Members of CTU will be present to provide an update on negotiations and then we will discuss how to support them in this fight to defend public education in our city.
We meet weekly on Tuesdays from 6 PM - 8 PM.

SB7 in Springfield unscrupulously lets the Board of Ed ignore these issues in bargaining with the CTU, but not the CTSC!
1. End the chronic defunding of neighborhood schools; reclaim TIFs and tax the rich.
2. End the race and class disparities in quality of CPS education; fully fund quality public education for all Chicagoans regardless of race, money, special needs or legal status.
3. Don't use our budget for failed experiments like charters and excessive testing that benefit political interests over kids' education. The community should control how its money is spent.
4. Open up bargaining over 'permissive issues' that effect classroom quality most including; class size, staffing, services, curriculum.
5. The mayor's appointed board is more concerned with attacking teachers than helping kids. We demand an elected representative school board as our democratic right.
